Safeguarding
Safeguarding and Child Protection is paramount, if a child does not feel safe then they will not be able to learn.
As a Parent/Carer of a child at Otterburn Primary School and Nursery, if you feel a child is at risk or is the subject of abuse you should contact the school and ask to speak to:
- Mrs Alison Woodcock (Designated Safeguarding Lead) or
- Mrs Helen Spiller (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead) or
- Mrs Katie Waddington (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead)
We will discuss any concerns with you in confidence and consider the best way to address the issues raised. This may involve sharing the information with other professionals.
We are totally committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. Safeguarding legislation and government guidance says that safeguarding means:
- Protecting children from maltreatment
- Preventing impairment of children’s health or development
- Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
- Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcome
Safeguarding includes child protection, health care plans, health and safety, site security, safety on school trips, anti-bullying work and so much more. ALL staff have a safeguarding responsibility in school.
The school adheres to the following three DfE safeguarding documents:
- Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023
- Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024
- The Prevent Duty
All staff receive annual Child Protection and Safeguarding update training and are aware of the procedures for passing on concerns within school.
