Key Stage 1 SATs

Key Stage 1 SATs – Information for Parents

At the end of Year 2, children will take part in the Key Stage 1 national curriculum assessments, commonly known as SATs. These tests are designed to support teachers’ assessments of your child’s progress and attainment in core subjects, helping to identify strengths and any areas for further development.

Subjects Assessed:

  • English reading

  • English grammar, punctuation and spelling (optional for schools)

  • Mathematics (arithmetic and reasoning)

Test Period for 2025:

Schools have flexibility to administer the Key Stage 1 SATs during May 2025. Unlike Key Stage 2 tests, these are not timed and are conducted in a more informal classroom setting to help put children at ease.

Otterburn Primary School – Planned Test Dates:

  • Monday 12th May: Mathematics

  • Tuesday 13th May: English (Reading)

  • Thursday 15th May: Spelling and Grammar

  • Monday 19th May: Mathematics

  • Tuesday 20th May: English (Reading)

If you have any questions about the assessments or how to support your child, please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s teacher.
